(1947, Budapest) painter
He has been an exhibiting painter since 1969. He has had sixty-five solo exhibitions in Hungary and abroad (Vienna, Prague, and Moscow). Since the second half of the 1970s, he has given numerous lectures, opened exhibitions, and published articles, essays, fine art, photography and film critiques, as well as studies on cultural history and art theory. His twenty-seven books published so far include works of popular science and literary works. He worked as an editor or director of two films and six television series. He is a member of the Hungarian Association of Creative Artists, the Patak Group, the Hungarian Writers’ Association and the Hungarian Academy of Arts; he was a board member of the latter between 2014 and 2020. His most important awards are the Small Cross of the Medal of Merit of the Republic of Hungary (1997), the Munkácsy Award (2001), the Simsay Prize (2005), the Award for Hungarian Art (2014), the title of Meritorious Artist of Hungary (2015), the Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Film Festival of Fine Arts in Szolnok (2016) and the title of Outstanding Artist (2021).
