Ákos MATZON

(1945, Budapest) painter

He graduated in architecture and teaching technical sciences from the Budapest privately owned University of Technology and Economics in 1963 and made several art study trips in the years that followed. His work is on the borderline of painting, sculpture and graphic art with a focus on layered visual surfaces, optical effects, cross-sections and reflections, and on exploring the interaction between light and shadow. He is an active member of several Hungarian and foreign art societies, as well as a participant, organiser and curator of exhibitions. He won the Pollock-Krasner Foundation’s scholarship (1998), the Award of Excellence from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2005) and the Grand Prix of the Paper Art Triennial in the same year, while he held a scholarship awarded by the Hungarian Academy in Rome between 2007 and 2009. He received the Munkácsy Award and a scholarship from the Province of Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart in 2010. His works can be found in numerous Hungarian and foreign public and private collections.
