PALKÓ Tibor

(1959, Budapest) painter

He graduated in painting from the Hungarian College of Fine Arts in 1985 and completed the institution’s MA programme in 1988. His masters were Lajos Sváby and Ferenc Kis-Tóth. Since 1990, besides paintings, he has made pen and ink drawings, sewing machine drawings, objects and installations individually and as part of the Block group. He regularly displays his works at solo and group exhibitions. He was the exhibition organiser of the Contemporary Gallery of Jászberény from 1988 to 1995 and the head of the ART CAMP International Art Symposium from 1990. He won the Derkovits scholarship in 1988 as well as the scholarships awarded by the Hungarian Academy in Rome and the City of Salzburg in 1995 and 1998, respectively. He received the Munkácsy Award (2005), the grand prize awarded by the Hungarian Academy of Arts (2014) and the Middle Generation Painting Award of the Hungarian Academy of Arts’ Fine Arts Section (2019). A monography on his life’s work was published in 2011. His works can be found in private collections in Hungary and abroad.
