Gábor LAJTA
(1955, Budapest) painter
After graduating with a law degree from Eötvös Loránd University in 1981, he studied newspaper design, worked as a film critic and design editor, while he studied graphic art and painting at art colleges in Vienna and Budapest from 1987 to 1992. He regards Sándor Molnár and Tibor Csernus as his masters. He is also active as an arts writer. His figurative paintings oscillate upon a fine line between reality and abstraction. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Hungary and abroad, and his works can be found in renowned public collections. He received the Munkácsy Award in 2015. He is a regular member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts. He painted an altarpiece for the Lutheran church in Dombóvár in 2014 and had a retrospective exhibition at the Kunsthalle Budapest in 2019.
