József BUHÁLY

(1945, Nyírtass) painter

He began his art training at the István Dési Huber Fine Arts Circle and at the Tokaj Artists’ Colony. He graduated from the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in 1977, with Lajos Szentiványi, I gnác Kokas and Jenő Barcsay as his masters. He worked at the Surikov Academy in Moscow on a scholarship from the Hungarian Ministry of Culture between 1977 and 1978. He has been a member of the Szentendre Graphic Art Workshop and the Old Artists’ Colony of Szentendre since 1980 and 1982, respectively. He has been exhibiting his works since 1975 and has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Hungary and abroad. He received the Derkovits Scholarship in 1980 and he was awarded the Hungarian Golden Cross of Merit in 2016. Two albums and a portrait film have been made about his work.
