Márton BARABÁS

(1952, Budapest) painter

He graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (MKE) in 1977 as a painter. His teachers were György Kádár, Ignác Kokas and Imre Kocsis. In addition to painting, he regularly made sculptures, first modelling and then constructing them. In 1995, he attended the training course of the Museums and Art Centers in the United States, supported by the Phelps Stockes Foundation. He obtained a DLA degree at MKE in 2012. He taught at Budapest Metropolitan University from 2010 to 2017. He has been a correspondent member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts since 2013 and a regular member since 2017. His work was recognised with the Munkácsy Award in 1999 and the Prima Award in 2021. He is the author of the book titled Piano Transcription / Art Writings (2021). In addition to his exhibitions in Hungary, he has also held shows in Copenhagen, Vienna, Katowice and Schaffhausen. His works can be found in major public collections in Hungary and Europe.
