János DRÉHER
(1952, Budapest) painter
He completed his art studies from 1977 to 1982 at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts, where his master was Tibor Bráda. He is a member of the Association of Hungarian Creative Artists, the Society of Hungarian Painters and the Association of Hungarian Fine and Applied Artists, where he is the head of the Division of Painting. He is a founding member of the Matéria Art Society. He has been a regular participant in exhibitions both in Hungary and abroad since 1983. In addition to several Hungarian cities, he has had solo exhibitions in Germany, Slovakia, Italy and Moldova. His solo exhibition was held at the Kunsthalle Budapest in 2021. His paintings are characterised by a strong material quality and layering closely associated with architecture. He creates false walls, evoking the processes of building and erosion over time. He was awarded the László Németh Prize for his work as an art teacher in 1993. He won the HUNGART scholarship in 2003 and the Munkácsy Award in 2013.
