János Demeter LÓRÁNT

(1938, Békésszentandrás) painter

He graduated in 1959 from the Szeged Teacher Training College, where his master was László Vinkler. He has been regularly exhibiting his works since 1962. He taught in Kaposvár between 1959 and 1966 and studied at the Academy of Arts in Havana in 1973. He was an associate professor at the Teacher Training College of Eger from 1982 to 1986. He held the Derkovits scholarship between 1968 and 1971. His most important recognitions are the Munkácsy Award (1972), the Artist of Merit title (1988), the Tornyai Plaque (1997), the Award for Hungarian Art (2008) and the Aba-Novák Lifetime Achievement Award (2019). He has been an honorary citizen of Békésszentandrás since 2005. His works can be found in numerous public collections in Hungary, Slovakia, Germany and Turkey.
