István ERŐS
(1964, Csíkkarcfalva / Cârța, RO) fine artist
He graduated in graphic art from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (MKE) in 1995. He also pursued studies at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague and the School of Fine Arts in Marseille. He earned his DLA in 2009, and he habilitated at the Faculty of Art at the University of Pécs in 2014. He was appointed full professor in 2015. He was the head of the Department of Visual Arts from 2008 to 2018, and later the Institute of Visual Arts at the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University in Eger. He is credited with the introduction of nature art into higher education. He is a teacher at the MKE. He works in various genres from graphic art through installations and performance art. In the past twenty years, he has primarily produced works of nature art. He participates in art colonies, symposia and exhibitions all around the world. He is the conceptual author and organiser of the SZEGMENS international exchange exhibition. For twelve years, he was one of the organisers of the KorkéP international art colony in Gyergyószárhegy (Lăzarea, Romania). He is the initiator and advisor of the Graphic Art Biennial of Szeklerland, established in 2010. He received the Munkácsy Award in 2012 and won the Master Teacher’s Gold Medal of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2013.
