József GAÁL

(1960, Tahitótfalu) painter, graphic artist, sculptor, art writer

He studied reproductive graphics at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts between 1979 and 1986 and has been an exhibiting artist since 1983. He taught at the István Ferenczy Drawing Class between 1987 and 1993. He has been a teacher at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts since 199 3, first at the faculty of visual education and then, from 1996, at the faculty of painting. He is currently an associate professor. He won the Munkácsy Award in 1991, the Tornyai Plaque of the Autumn Exhibition in Vásárhely in 2015 and the prize of the Fine Arts Section of the Hungarian Academy of Arts in 2013. He was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary in 2024. His works can be found in Hungarian and international collections. He is a regular member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts. He had a solo exhi bition at the Műcsarnok in 2018 and exhi bited his large-scale paintings at the synagogue in Szolnok in 2023.
