Péter GÁLHIDY

(1974, Budapest) sculptor

He graduated in 1997 from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, where his masters were József Somogyi, István Bencsik and Zoltán Karmó. He also completed his MA at the same institution between 1997 and 1999. He mainly uses wood, bronze and iron but also makes fishing line installations and r ecycles a variety of found materials in his works. He has been an assistant lecturer at the Department of Sculpture at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts since 2001, an artist-lecturer since 2014, and a senior lecturer since 2022. He has been a regular participant in solo and group exhibitions since 1997. His most important recognitions include the Derkovits Scholarship (2001- 2003), the Géza Samu Prize (2007), the Béla Endre Master Award (2017), the creative fellowship of the Hungarian Academy of Arts (2018), and the Munkácsy Award (2019). He has been a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts since 2023. His works can be found in public collections (the Hungarian National Gallery, the KOGART, Deák Collection, and the Nagyatád Sculpture Park) as well as in public spaces (Balatonkenese, Pécs, Budapest and Kostanevica na Krki, Slovenia).
