Károly ELEKES
(1951, Székelykeresztúr / Cristuru Secuiesc, RO) fine artist
He graduated in graphics from the Ion Andreescu College of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca in 1975. He was a founding member and one of the organisers of the Marosvásárhely Workshop (MAMŰ) in Târgu Mures between 1978 and 1984. He settled in Hungary in 1984 and lives and works in Budapest. He worked in the Pantenon Group from 1990 to 1993 and became a founder and member of the re-formed MAMŰ Association in 1991. H e has been a member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts since 2012. His works have been displayed at numerous solo and group exhibitions. His solo exhibition opened in the Kunsthalle Budapest in 2021. His major awards include the Award of the Hungarian Ministry for Culture (1988), the Lajos Vajda Studio Award (1992), the Studio of Young Artists’ Association Award (1993, 1994), the Munkácsy Award (1998), the Kálmán Csohány Award (1998), the Mozgó Világ Magazine’s Excellence Award (2006) and the Prima Award (2024).
