Lajos CSONTÓ

(1964, Budapest) fine artist

He graduated in graphic art with a specialisation in image graphics from the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts in 1990. Besides graphic and painting techniques, he also deals with photography, videos and installations. He uses found and his own photographs as well as text fragments to create his works, exploring the interplay between archives and the flood of digital and personal images, while he is also interested in reinterpreting the genre of the portrait. His conceptual works are a strange, ironic and sometimes trivial blend of visual and verbal phenomena that also appeal to the senses. He has been a participant in domestic and international exhibitions, art colonies, conferences and symposia since 1988, both as an invited guest and as a curator. He held the Derkovits scholarship between 1992 and 1995. He received several prestigious scholarships, including that of the Hungarian Academy in Rome (2004), the Budapest – Cite Internationale Des Arts in Paris (2006) and the Art Division of the Hungarian Academy of Arts (2017). He is a habilitated associate professor at the Institute of Media and Design at the Eszterházy Károly Catholic University and a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
