János KALMÁR

(1952, Budapest) sculptor

He studied at the Warsaw Academy of Arts and the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (MKE) between 1973 and 1978. After 1983, he went on study trips to Paris, London, Germany, Switzerland and India. He has lived and worked in Paris and Budapest since 2008. He completed his DLA degree at MKE in 2011. He is a member of the Association of Hungarian Fine and Applied Artists, the Association of Hungarian Creative Artists, the Hungarian Sculptors’ Society, the International Kepes Society, the Royal British Society of Sculptors and the British Art Medal Society. His most important recognitions include the Derkovits scholarship (1983–1986), the scholarship awarded by the Pollock- Krasner Foundation (1996–1997), the Special Prize of the International Contemporary Medal Biennial (2001), the Munkácsy Award (2010) and the Order of Arts et Lettres of the French Republic (2021). His works have been represented in Paris by the Martel-Greiner Gallery Since 2013. His sculptures are displayed in solo and group exhibitions in Europe and America. His open-air sculptures can be seen in Budapest, Bácsalmás, Kiskőrös, Salgótarján, Fehérgyarmat and Bath (UK). His works can be found in many prominent public collections in Hungary, Europe and overseas.
