Péter MENASÁGI
(1973, Budapest) sculptor
He graduated in sculpture in 1999 from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, where his masters were István Bencsik and Zoltán Karmó. He completed his DLA doctorate at the University of Pécs in 2009. He has been teaching as an assistant professor since 2010 and, as an associate professor, and has been the head of an autonomous section at the department of sculpture of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts since 2017. He represents a dominant sculptural tendency in Hungarian fine art with his autonomous works, in which the funda - mental questions of existence emerge as themes. He produces his works, oscillating between the sacred and the profane, in a contemporary way using traditional techniques. His most significant public artwork is the Péter Mansfeld Memorial. He has displayed his autonomous works at numerous solo exhibitions and is a regular participant in major thematic as well as national exhibitions. His recognitions are the KOGART study scholarship abroad (2010), the Hungarian Academy of Arts Award at the 3rd Sculpture Biennial (2014), the Munkácsy Award (2018), an art scholarship from the Hungarian Academy of Arts (2018–2021), Grand Prix of the V. Sculpture Biennial (2021), and a scholarship from the Hungarian Academy in Rome (2023). His most significant public works are the Péter Mansfeld Memorial (Budapest), the Closed Gate (Budaörs) and a portrait of Dr Ignác Szabó (Tatabánya).
