Borbála SZANYI
(1979, Miskolc) sculptor
She graduated in sculpture in 2008 from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts as a student of Zoltán Karmó and György Jovánovics. In addition to traditional materials used in sculpture (wood, stone, bronze, iron), she also works with other experimental materials and techniques, while also making site-specific spatial installations and video works. She is a regular participant of domestic and international exhibitions, competitions and artists’ colonies. She won the prize awarded by the Hungarian Academy of Arts at the 4th Biennial of Sculpture in 2017 and the Grand Prix of the XXIV. Winter Exhibition in 2018. She has received numerous scholarships (Ludwig scholarship, Paris 2003; Derkovits scholarship, 2013, 2014; Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy in Rome 2019; scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Arts 2021–2024). Her works can be found in several public and private collections in Hungary and abroad, including Guatemala, Pakistan and the United States.
