Tamás GAÁL
(1962, Szombathely) sculptor
He graduated in sculpture in 1987 from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, where his master was Tamás Vigh. He completed his MA at the same university in 1988, and his master was György Segesdi. He was a Derkovits scholarship holder between 1988 and 1991 and won the Munkácsy Award in 1994. He won the DAAD scholarship in 1995 and the Meritorious Artist Award in 2006. He has been teaching at the department of sculpture of the Master School of Fine Arts of the University of Pécs since 1993. In 2010, he habilitated at the university’s faculty of arts, where he was head of department from 2015 and professor between 2016 and 2023. He won the scholarship of the Hungarian Academy in Rome in 2013 and held the art scholarship awarded by the Department of Fine Arts of the Hungarian Academy of Arts between 2022 and 2023. In recent years, he has had solo exhibitions in Budapest, Sárvár and Pécs. He is an honorary citizen of the city of Sárvár. His works can be found in several prestigious Hungarian public collections, while his open-air sculptures can be seen in Paks and Sárvár.
